Altered Ego – Ego Maduekwe Reveals Debut Collection, Unwoven

The Unwoven collection is the first from the label formerly known as Alter Ego by Ego Maduekwe, now simply known as Ego Maduekwe.
The designer, Ego Maduekwe, reveals that the Unwoven collection is born of the change they’ve experience with the name change and examines the duality of power and femininity, citing symbols of power in traditional African societies as inspiration.
In the notes, the designer goes further to explain the origin of the prints, fabrics and details – Hausa “8 knives” embroidery detail used on emir’s robes is used as a print and the “ukara” symbol print used by The Leopard Society, a West African secret society found in the south east of Nigeria.
The design aesthetics of the collection is slightly form fitting with a comfortable breezy feel – cut outs similar to traditional “ukara” symbols, fringe details, sheer infusion, peplum details are some of the designs that characterize this collection.
